AI in motorsports – A cooperation between TOYOTA GAZOO Racing and AI Research Cluster of TH Köln

Two master students of TH Köln presented the results of their thesis at the Cologne A.I. & Machine Learning Meetup.

On July 4, 2023, Noah Pütz and Jens Brandt, two master students of TH Köln, presented their joint final project at the Cologne A.I. & Machine Learning Meetup. This project is conducted in cooperation with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing and focuses on the application of artificial intelligence in motorsports. The goal of their research is to develop assistance functions through artificial intelligence in racing.

Noah Pütz and Jens Brandt have developed an approach for predicting the so-called float angle (drift angle). In particular, their focus is on investigating the possibilities of transfer learning in the context of deep learning models. The project is supervised by Dr. Ing. Marc Hilbert (TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Europe) and Prof. Dr. Thomas Bartz-Beielstein (TH Köln).

The presentation at the Cologne A.I. & Machine Learning Meetup gave the two students the opportunity to present their work to a broad audience of experts. A total of around 70 experts and interested parties attended the event, which was organized that evening by the AI Research Cluster of TH Köln.
